CBI Arrests Railway Junior Engineer for Taking Bribe in Jharkhand

Ranchi — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a junior engineer from the South Eastern Railway for allegedly accepting a bribe from a representative of a private company to facilitate an electrical connection at a site office in Jharkhand.

The accused, identified as Ravindra Kumar, was posted as a Junior Engineer (Electrical) at Bhojudih in Bokaro under the Adra Division. According to officials, the case was registered on March 16 after allegations surfaced that he had demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant in exchange for arranging the required power connection.

Following the complaint, the CBI conducted a preliminary verification and then set up a trap. The accused was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 as part payment of the bribe.

In a statement, the agency confirmed that the public servant was apprehended during the transaction. After the arrest, CBI teams carried out searches at his office and residence to gather further evidence related to the case.

Officials said the searches were still in progress at the time of reporting, and relevant documents and materials were being examined.

The accused will be produced before the appropriate court after completing the necessary legal procedures. Meanwhile, investigators are also looking into whether he was involved in similar activities earlier or if other officials played a role in the alleged bribery.

The CBI added that more details are likely to emerge as the investigation moves forward.
