Campaign to make educational institutions tobacco-free

Ranchi: The Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department launched a campaign on Saturday to make all educational institutions in the district tobacco-free, in line with the ToFEI guidelines and the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0. As part of the initiative, a one-day orientation workshop was organized at the Amar Shaheed Thakur Vishwanath Shahdev District Chief Minister Excellence School in Ranchi, with technical support from SEEDS.

The workshop was chaired by District Education Officer Vinay Kumar, and was attended by Assistant Programme Officer Akhilesh Kumar and District Education Superintendent Badal Raj.

Speaking at the event, District Education Officer Vinay Kumar emphasized that tobacco consumption has become a major global public health issue. He highlighted the importance of raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use among both adults and youth.

He added that while the workshop was being held in Ranchi, similar campaigns would soon be conducted across other districts to develop tobacco-free educational institutions throughout the state. He also administered an oath to all participants to refrain from tobacco consumption.
