Budget 2023-24: Opposition says size only large but nothing for people in it

Ranchi: The opposition parties in the state have described the annual budget tabled in the Assembly by Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon as only large in size but had nothing for the people in reality. Leader of the legislature wing of BJP Babulal Marandi said that when one would have a deep look inside the budget and will try to understand it they would find nothing, especially there is nothing to talk about in the agriculture sector and the people who are involved in it.

He pointed out that even for the irrigation sector a mere allocation of 12 percent has been made and there are no provisions to double the income of the people rather the budget size was just increased by 15 percent to Rs 1,16,418 crore.

AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto said that the state government has tabled a book of lies and core issues have been set aside in the budget. He said that there was nothing for the poor common people, farmers, young women and unemployed in the budget and it appears that in the name of budget only formalities have been done. He claimed that the state government just wants to pass its time.

Mahto said that there is no focus on the areas of health education, power roads and infrastructure and only through the help of figures a heavy budget has been tabled. CPI-ML MLA Binod Kumar Singh said that he was disappointed with the fact that there was nothing for the women and youth of the state in this budget.

He said that while the issue of reservation for women was not mentioned there is also nothing on women empowerment and minimum wage guarantee to the sahiyas, jal-sahiyas and rasoiyas has not been done. The MLA said that the government had talked about providing jobs to the youth but it is also guaranteed that whether through the old policy, they will be able to get jobs or not. He further pointed out that one could not find promises of jobs in the health and education sectors.
