New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday congratulated the all-women mountaineering team of the Border Security Force (BSF) for successfully scaling Mount Everest, calling the achievement a shining example of courage, patriotism and women empowerment.
Praising the team, Amit Shah said the women personnel displayed exceptional determination while marking the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the BSF. Sharing his message on X, the Home Minister wrote that “Nari Shakti proves BSF’s invincible might” and described the feat as a “golden chapter” in the force’s history.
According to the BSF, the expedition was carried out under “Mission Vande Mataram” and marked the first-ever all-women Everest expedition by the force. The team successfully reached the summit of the world’s highest peak, standing at 8,848.86 metres, at around 8 a.m. IST.
The mountaineering team included Constable Kouser Fatima from Ladakh, Constable Munmun Ghosh from West Bengal, Constable Rabeka Singh from Uttarakhand, and Constable Tsering Chorol from Kargil. The BSF said the women personnel carried the spirit of “Vande Mataram” to the top of the world during the force’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
The force stated that despite the extreme altitude and harsh weather conditions, where even standing upright becomes difficult without oxygen support, the team members sang “Vande Mataram” together after reaching the summit, creating a historic moment symbolising resilience and national pride.
Calling it a proud achievement for the country, the BSF said the successful expedition reflects the growing strength of women in uniform and the force’s commitment to excellence and service to the nation.
The Border Security Force was established on December 1, 1965, after the India-Pakistan war to strengthen the security of India’s international borders. Functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the BSF is widely known as India’s “First Line of Defence.”
