Blood storage units will be built in 64 community health centers with Rs 8.20 crore

Ranchi: The health department in Jharkhand is making every possible effort to reduce the maternal mortality rate. Jharkhand’s maternal mortality rate is 56 and the national maternal mortality rate is 97. Which the Jharkhand government is trying to reduce to zero. In this series, blood storage units will be established in 64 community health centers at a cost of Rs 8 crore 20 lakh 48000. Rs 8.50 lakh will be spent on each blood storage unit.

It is noteworthy that there are a total of 194 community health centers in the state. Of these, approval has been given for setting up blood storage units in 124 community health centres. Whereas blood storage units are already operational in six community health centres. The department is now preparing to set up blood storage units in the remaining 64 community health centres. Blood storage units will be established in 64 centers at a cost of Rs 8 crore 20 lakh 48000. Whereas Rs 8.50 lakh will be spent in making one blood storage unit.

The Community Health Center works as a health subcentre and a referral hospital for the primary health center at the block level. Many times delivery is done through surgery in a community health center and during this time there is a sudden need for blood. Due to lack of blood storage unit, one has to depend on the blood bank located at the district level and in case of sudden need of blood during delivery, blood is not available immediately. Due to which the mother dies.

On the other hand, serious patients from nearby primary health centers are referred to community health centers. Those who need blood urgently. Due to lack of blood, patients have to be referred to the district hospital or other institute.
