Bhungroo Aqua Line project launched in Ranchi

Ranchi: In a move aimed at sustainable water management, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Manjunath Bhajantri on Tuesday inaugurated the Bhungroo Aqua Line water harvesting project in the Bhungroo region of Ranchi district. The initiative focuses on rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and providing clean drinking water to rural communities—a strategic response to the growing challenges of climate change and water scarcity.

The launch event saw participation from senior district officials, water resource experts, local village heads, environmental activists, and residents, underscoring community involvement in long-term sustainability.

Speaking at the event, DC Manjunath Bhajantri emphasized the critical link between water and life, calling the project a milestone in rural economic strengthening and ecological balance. “Jal jeevan ka aadhar hai (Water is the foundation of life). Bhungroo Aqua Line will not only promote water conservation but also support rural livelihoods and help combat environmental degradation. Our administration is fully committed to tackling the water crisis,” he said.

Highlighting the broader vision, he added, “We must liberate ourselves not only from colonial exploitation but also from modern threats like addiction, social evils, and ecological destruction—the ‘new colonizers’. This project is part of that resistance.”

The Deputy Commissioner commended the District Water & Sanitation Mission, PHED, and partner NGOs for their role and directed that the project be reviewed quarterly for impact assessment and scaled as needed.

A senior Water Resources Department official termed the initiative a revolutionary step toward water self-reliance in Jharkhand’s villages and confirmed plans to replicate it in at least ten more locations in the coming years.

The Bhungroo Aqua Line marks a turning point in Ranchi’s journey toward climate resilience, rural empowerment, and water security.
