Ranchi, Sep 25: Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarathi tsaid that his Bharat Yatra was a ‘Mahayudh’ (war) against sexual abuse of children.
Addressing a function organized at the RIMS Auditorium here he said that incidents of sexual abuse against the children are taking place not only inside the country but also outside the nation. These incident are taking place in the homes and also in the schools but unfortunately the nation was silent on the issue.
He said that when he had started this Yatra he was subject to criticism as to why he was taking the incidents of the rape of the children to the villages and the state of the country. But he did not listened to them and started his Yatra from Kanyakumari. He said that under this Yatra he would be covering 11,000 kilometers across 22 states of the nation during 35 days.
Raising questions over the pending cases of sexual exploitation in the courts of the nation he pointed that 53 per cent children are subject to one or another kind of subjection. He said that the epidemic of sexual exploitation has reached among the houses, schools and society. He said that the society and the government, religious heads and corporate sectors needed to come together to protect the children.
Speaking on the occasion Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu said that it was indeed unfortunate that a Yatra was need for the cause of the children who are considered the future of the nation. She stressed on the need to incorporate culture and moral values in the education system.
