Bandhu approaches High Court, files criminal petition

Ranchi: A criminal appeal petition has been filed in the High Court on behalf of former Jharkhand minister and Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey.

Through this, the sentence given by the special CBI court has been challenged in court. Advocate Nilesh Kumar of the High Court has filed this petition on behalf of Bandhu Tirkey. In this, there has been a demand to quash the sentence awarded by the special CBI court in the disproportionate assets case. Along with this, a petition has been filed requesting to confirm the provisional bail.

A special CBI court at Ranchi had recently sentenced Bandhu to three years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh in the disproportionate assets case. Against this, Bandhu Tirkey has approached the High Court. Through a criminal appeal petition filed in the High Court on behalf of Bandhu Tirkey, the sentence given by the special CBI court has been challenged in the past. The lawyers have demanded a quashing of the sentence handed down by the special CBI court. Along with this a petition urging to confirm the provisional bail has been also moved.

After the amendment in the Representation of the People Act-1951 in 2013, so far four MLAs of Jharkhand have lost their membership. Those who have lost their membership include Lohardaga MLA Kamal Kishore Bhagat (now
late), Kolebira MLA Enos Ekka, Silli MLA Amit Mahto and Gomia MLA Yogendra Mahto. Bandhu Tirkey was also sentenced to three years in prison. This is the reason why he has moved the High Court and has demanded quashing of the sentence.
