Jagadhatri Actress Sonakshi Batra Revisits Childhood Janmashtami Memories

For television actress Sonakshi Batra, Janmashtami is more than a festival. It is closely linked to some of her fondest childhood memories and a lesson about staying grounded while taking on different roles in life.

The Jagadhatri actress recalled how her father would ask her to seek Lord Krishna’s blessings before she stepped on stage during her childhood extracurricular activities. She said she did not fully understand the significance of the ritual at the time, but has come to appreciate its meaning as she grew older.

Batra said Krishna took on many roles during his life — as a son, friend, guide, strategist and king — while remaining true to himself. She drew a parallel with acting, saying an actor also has to step into different characters, emotions and worlds without losing their own identity.

Janmashtami also takes her back to the festive traditions at home. She recalled decorating Laddu Gopal, dressing the idol in colourful clothes, adorning it with flowers and creating jhankis with her family.

Her mother would prepare special bhog for Krishna, particularly kheer, while makkhan was also kept as an offering. For Batra, these simple family traditions made the festival feel personal, warm and joyful.

She also sees a deeper message in the Dahi Handi tradition. According to the actress, reaching the handi may be the achievement of one person, but it is only possible because an entire team supports that person.

She said the same principle applies to every profession: success may appear to belong to one individual, but it is often the result of several people working together and supporting one another.

Batra said Janmashtami now reminds her of the importance of having the courage to take on different roles while remaining connected to one’s true self. She also expressed hope that Lord Krishna continues to guide people, give them the strength to do their part and the faith to accept what lies beyond their control.

Jagadhatri airs on Zee TV.
