Deoghar: The Deoghar Municipal Corporation has stepped up its crackdown on the sale of meat, fish and animal slaughter in the Shravani Mela area to maintain the sanctity of the Rajkiya Shravani Mela 2026 and respect the religious sentiments of devotees.
As part of the drive, a meat shop in Jasidih was sealed, while fines amounting to ₹7,500 were imposed on several other establishments found violating the ban.
According to the Municipal Corporation, complaints had been received regarding the illegal sale of meat and fish and animal slaughter in Koriyasa, Jasidih, Barmasia and Baidyanathpur. Acting on the directions of the Municipal Commissioner, a confidential inspection team was formed to verify the complaints.
The team conducted surprise inspections and an intensive enforcement drive across the identified areas. During the operation, Roshan Meat Shop in Jasidih was found violating the prohibition, leading to its immediate sealing.
The inspection team also imposed a cumulative fine of ₹7,500 on Jalal Meat Shop in Jasidih, Bablu Meat Shop in Barmasia, and other meat shops operating in Koriyasa and Baidyanathpur for breaching the restrictions. All shop owners were issued a final warning against any future violations.
The Municipal Corporation said confidential inspection drives will continue throughout the holy month of Shravan, and strict action will be taken against anyone found flouting the ban.
It also appealed to all meat and fish vendors to follow the Corporation’s directives and cooperate in preserving the sanctity, cleanliness and religious atmosphere of the Shravani Mela.
