Ranchi Police Crack Cyber Fraud Network, Five Held After Raid on Apartment

Ranchi: Ranchi Police has busted a cyber fraud racket operating in the Gonda police station area and arrested five people in connection with the case, officials said on Friday.

Police recovered a large number of bank-related documents and electronic devices from the accused, including 50 bank passbooks issued in different names, 26 debit cards, eight cheque books, 13 mobile phones and three Aadhaar cards. All the items have been seized.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan, police received a tip-off on the night of May 28 that a group involved in cybercrime activities was operating from a flat at Rock View Apartment near Chandni Chowk in Dhawan Nagar under the Gonda police station limits.

Acting on the information, a police team led by the Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police, along with Gonda police station personnel and armed forces, conducted a raid at the apartment around 8 p.m. During the operation, five suspects were found inside the flat under suspicious circumstances.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted that fake identity documents were used to open multiple bank accounts, which were then used for cyber fraud activities. They also told investigators that the apartment belonged to a person identified as “Nikhil Bhaiya”, who allegedly trained them in carrying out online fraud.

Those arrested have been identified as Kajal Kumar Mandal from Jamtara, Anand Kumar and Shakib Ansari from Ramgarh, Bikki Kumar from Bokaro, along with a minor from Ramgarh.

A case has been registered at Gonda police station, and further investigation is underway to trace other members of the network and absconding accused.

The raiding team included Gonda SHO Abhay Kumar Sinha, sub-inspectors Sunny Kumar and Om Prakash Prasad, assistant sub-inspector Ramjanam Prasad, and armed police personnel.
