Ranchi: Security forces have achieved a major success in the anti-Naxal operations being carried out in Jharkhand. Under the state government’s “Operation Navjeevan” initiative, a total of 27 militants active in the Kolhan, Saranda, and Gumla regions surrendered before the police and decided to return to the mainstream. The surrendered cadres include several active members and commanders of the CPI (Maoist) and JJMP outfits.
According to a press release issued by the Jharkhand Police Headquarters, the continuous anti-Naxal campaign and the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy are now showing visible results on the ground. Police data revealed that so far in 2026, 44 Naxals have been arrested, while 29 militants have surrendered. In addition, 22 Maoists have been killed in separate encounters.
Police officials said that 25 members of the CPI (Maoist) operating in the Kolhan and Saranda regions laid down their arms. Among them were six sub-zonal commanders and six area commanders. During the surrender, security forces recovered 16 weapons and 2,857 rounds of ammunition. Meanwhile, two JJMP militants active in Gumla district also surrendered with one weapon and 130 rounds of ammunition.
Officials stated that most of the surrendered militants are residents of West Singhbhum and Giridih districts. Police believe the surrender will significantly weaken Maoist activities in Kolhan and adjoining areas. Authorities have also appealed to other extremists to abandon violence and join the mainstream of society.
Jharkhand DGP Tadasha Mishra and IG Operations Narendra Kumar Singh said the police are continuing intensive operations against extremist groups across the state. They added that surrendered militants would receive assistance under the government’s rehabilitation policy.
