Man Kills Brother-in-Law in Ranchi After Family Dispute, Arrested

Ranchi: A domestic dispute turned fatal in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district after a man allegedly murdered his brother-in-law using a sharp-edged weapon and a stone in Tamar area on Friday, police said.

The incident took place in Nichetoli village under Tamar police station limits. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Gajendra Singh, a resident of Runia village in neighbouring Khunti district.

According to police, Gajendra had come to his in-laws’ house along with his wife on Thursday. Tension reportedly began after the accused, identified as Bhupesh Khandit, allegedly took possession of all household utensils and refused to allow cooking in the house. He reportedly insisted that the guests return to their village as he did not want them staying there.

Police said the dispute escalated on Friday morning when Bhupesh’s younger sister asked him for utensils to cook food and fetch water for the family. During the heated argument, Bhupesh allegedly attacked Gajendra multiple times with a ‘Dauli’, a locally used sharp-edged weapon.

The accused then allegedly struck Gajendra on the head with a large stone lying in the courtyard, killing him on the spot.

Police added that Bhupesh’s younger sister sustained minor injuries while trying to save her husband during the attack.

After the incident, the accused reportedly locked himself inside a room in the house. Acting on information, Tamar police station in-charge Praveen Kumar Modi reached the spot with a police team, forced open the room and arrested the accused.

Investigators said Bhupesh had previously served jail time in an attempt-to-murder case.

Considering the seriousness of the crime, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Ranchi was called to collect evidence from the scene.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and the family dispute that led to the murder.
