Jamshedpur: Jharkhand is expected to experience a fresh spell of unstable weather over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several districts till May 12.
According to the weather department, isolated parts of the state may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph on May 8 and 9. Similar weather conditions are likely to continue on May 10 and 11 in almost all regions of Jharkhand, except some north-western areas.
The IMD has also predicted thunderstorm activity at isolated places again on May 12.
Meteorologists said the changing weather is being caused by moisture-laden winds and unstable atmospheric conditions prevailing over eastern India. The expected rainfall and cloud cover are likely to provide relief from the summer heat and help keep temperatures in check during the coming days.
However, officials have advised people to remain alert during thunderstorm hours, especially in open fields and rural areas where lightning incidents are more common.
“People should avoid staying in open spaces during lightning activity. Farmers and daily commuters are also advised to stay updated with weather forecasts,” a senior weather official said.
Weather data showed that maximum temperatures across Jharkhand remained relatively comfortable over the past 24 hours, ranging between 29 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius in most areas. Experts believe intermittent rain and thunderstorms may continue to prevent a sharp rise in temperatures for the next few days.
