Solar Irrigation Brings New Hope to Farmers in Dhanbad

Jamshedpur: ACC Limited, part of the diversified Adani Group, is quietly transforming agriculture in parts of Dhanbad by introducing solar-powered irrigation systems in the villages of Chhatatand and Samlapur.

This initiative focuses on supporting small and marginal farmers, with 5 HP solar irrigation systems now covering over 15 acres of farmland. By shifting to renewable energy, farmers are getting a steady and reliable water supply, even in areas where electricity remains inconsistent.

The impact is already visible. Farmers who earlier depended on diesel pumps are now saving significantly on fuel costs—up to ₹30,000 per season. With assured irrigation, they are also able to cultivate multiple crops in a year, leading to better yields and more stable incomes.

The benefits extend beyond economics. Each solar pump helps reduce carbon emissions by around 1.5 tons annually, promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices in the region.

Community involvement has played a key role in the project’s success. Training programs and awareness campaigns have made it easier for farmers to adopt and use the new systems effectively.

“We no longer have to worry about diesel or power cuts. Now we can farm whenever needed,” said one of the beneficiaries, highlighting the change this initiative has brought.

Through such efforts, ACC continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable development—using clean energy not just to power agriculture, but to improve livelihoods and build resilience in rural communities.
