Ranchi — Preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Jharkhand have gathered pace, with Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar directing district officials to complete pre-revision tasks within a set timeframe. He emphasised that the exercise aims to produce an accurate, transparent and error-free electoral roll so that no eligible citizen is left out.
During a review meeting with deputy electoral officers, Kumar instructed officials to accelerate the pasting of stickers containing details of the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) on every household. These stickers will carry the BLO’s name, mobile number and house number, allowing voters to contact them directly. The initiative is part of an ongoing door-to-door verification campaign, under which BLOs are visiting homes to collect enumeration forms.
He also said voters whose details could not be mapped from the previous revision list to the current one can use the “Book a Call” feature on the ECINet platform to connect with their BLOs. This measure is expected to simplify the process of adding or correcting names in the electoral roll.
Officials were further asked to prepare polling station-wise lists of absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate voters. Special emphasis was placed on categorising voters registered at addresses of demolished or relocated houses under the shifted category. During house mapping, authorities were told to retain pre-assigned house numbers and assign notional numbers only when required.
Earlier, the Chief Electoral Officer held discussions with representatives of recognised political parties and sought their cooperation for the revision process. The Election Commission of India has also asked parties to expedite the appointment and training of Booth Level Agents to strengthen coordination at the grassroots level.
The Commission clarified that lists of absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate voters will be made public only after verification by political party agents through BLOs, a step aimed at removing bogus entries and improving the reliability of the electoral roll.
