Tata Motors announces up to 1.5% price hike on commercial vehicles from April

Jamshedpur :Tata Motors has announced an increase of up to 1.5 per cent in prices of its commercial vehicles (CVs), effective April 1, citing sustained pressure from rising commodity prices and input costs.

The company stated that the hike will be implemented in a calibrated manner, with variations across models and variants, rather than a flat increase.

The move comes after the automaker absorbed a significant portion of escalating costs over recent months, making a partial pass-through to customers unavoidable.

The decision reflects broader trends in the automotive sector, where manufacturers are facing continued inflationary pressures in raw materials such as steel and aluminium, along with higher logistics and operational expenses.

The development follows Tata Motors’ recent restructuring, which saw the demerger of its commercial and passenger vehicle businesses into two separately listed entities.

While the CV segment remains under Tata Motors Ltd, the passenger vehicle arm — including electric vehicles and Jaguar Land Rover — now operates under Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV).

Despite cost challenges, the company has posted strong performance in the CV segment. In February 2026, Tata Motors recorded sales of 42,940 units, registering a 32 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 32,533 units in the same month last year.

The heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) segment led the growth, with truck sales rising 37.1 per cent to 13,559 units from 9,892 units a year earlier.

The increase highlights sustained demand from transporters and fleet operators, supported by improving economic activity and freight movement.

Domestic demand remained the key growth driver, while exports also registered moderate gains. The growth was seen across most truck and cargo segments, indicating a steady recovery in the commercial vehicle market.

Market observers believe that while demand outlook remains positive, the impact of price hikes on customer sentiment and future buying decisions will be closely monitored.
