Ranchi — After a 12-day-long search operation, Jharkhand Police have safely recovered two minor siblings abducted from the Dhurwa area of Ranchi earlier this month. The victims, Ansh (4) and Anshika (5), were rescued from Ramgarh district, and two accused have been taken into custody.
The children went missing on January 2 after leaving their home to purchase groceries, triggering intense public protests and a citywide outcry. A missing persons report was filed on January 3, following which police launched a massive investigation.
A Special Investigation Team comprising 40 officers was set up, which relied on technical surveillance, human intelligence, and analysis of thousands of CCTV cameras. Authorities also announced a Rs 4 lakh reward and sought assistance from voluntary organisations.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights intervened in the matter, seeking a status report from the state police. Acting on fresh leads, the SIT traced the children to Chitarpur, where they were found safe.
Initial investigations indicate that the abduction may have been carried out by members of a nomadic Gulgulia group. Police said the children are healthy, and further questioning of the arrested accused is ongoing to uncover the full network involved.
