Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition demanding a CBI investigation into the alleged paper leak in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission’s Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) exam, paving the way for the pending results to be published.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar delivered the verdict nearly a month after reserving judgment on November 3. The bench instructed the Commission to release the results without any further delay.
During the hearings, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan and Advocate Piyush Chitresh appeared for the state, while Advocate Sanjay Piparwal represented the JSSC. Senior Supreme Court counsel Ajit Kumar Sinha and senior advocate Ajit Kumar argued on behalf of the petitioners.
The JSSC-CGL — a highly competitive exam for recruitment to over 2,000 government posts — was held on September 21–22, 2024, at 823 centres across the state. Of the 3,04,769 candidates who took the exam, 2,145 were shortlisted on December 5, 2024.
However, the result publication was halted after Rajesh Kumar and others filed a PIL seeking a CBI probe, alleging the exam had been compromised due to leaked question papers. Acting on these claims, the High Court had imposed an interim stay on December 17, 2024.
In subsequent hearings, the state informed the court that the CID found no credible evidence supporting the allegations of a paper leak. The JSSC also maintained that the examination process was not breached.
The petitioners continued to push for a central agency probe, citing similar question sets and purported videos from outside exam centres, but the court ultimately ruled against the request.
The decision to dismiss the plea and order result publication has come as a major relief for lakhs of aspirants awaiting the next recruitment stage.
