Mumbai: Content creator and actress Prajakta Koli, who stars in the upcoming Netflix series Single Papa, believes that humour is one of the most effective ways to approach sensitive themes such as single parenting.
Prajakta shared that comedy allows audiences to take in serious messages without feeling overwhelmed.
“Comedy is always such an easy pill to swallow,” she told IANS. “If you want to have a difficult conversation and it’s delivered through comedy, it’s always more effective. That’s why this set-up works so well.”
Speaking about her time on set, Prajakta fondly recalled the lively presence of young Hami, who plays a key role in the show.
“I had a lot of fun. He used to look at everyone with big eyes—he seemed to be having so much fun. It was mind-blowing,” she said.
She added that viewers must watch the show “for Hami”, recalling moments when actor Kunal Kemmu spoke to the child and received unexpectedly adorable responses.
Single Papa stars Manoj Pahwa, Kunal Kemmu, Prajakta Koli, and Ayesha, and follows the story of Gaurav Gehlot—a lovable, emotionally immature man who decides to adopt a baby right after his divorce. His sudden decision leaves his family baffled and concerned, sparking a series of chaotic yet heartwarming events as they try to figure out how someone who loses his socks daily plans to raise a child.
The series will premiere on December 12 on Netflix.
Prajakta has been steadily expanding her acting portfolio. She released the short film Khayali Pulao in 2020, followed by her breakout role in Netflix’s Mismatched. She also appeared in Jugjugg Jeeyo, Neeyat, and headlined the theatre teleplay Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti. In 2025, she starred in the horror series Andhera and is set to make her Marathi cinema debut with Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam.
