MGNREGA workers await pending wages for months due to treasury system glitch

Ranchi: MGNREGA workers in Jharkhand have been waiting for their honorarium for the past eight to ten months, as technical glitches in the state’s e-treasury system continue to delay payments. The malfunction has disrupted fund transfers through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS).

The Rural Development Department had issued instructions to ensure payment before Chhath festival, but more than 2,000 workers across the state have yet to receive their dues.

The central government implemented the APBS system on 1 January 2024 for MGNREGA and several other central schemes to promote transparency and accountability in fund disbursement. Under this system, funds are directly transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, eliminating the role of intermediaries.
