Jail staffer thrashed by mob over alleged misconduct with minor girl, arrested by police

Jamshedpur: A disturbing incident from the Sitaramdera area of Jamshedpur has sparked public outrage after a 55-year-old warder posted at Ghaghidih Central Jail was accused of inappropriate behaviour with a 9-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar Singh, was allegedly seen taking the girl to the terrace of his three-storey building, where the act reportedly occurred.

The child’s family grew suspicious when she didn’t return home on time and began reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops. One clip from a store near Bhalubasa Chowk reportedly showed Sanjay walking with the girl, prompting the family and local residents to confront him at his residence.

A mob gathered at the flat, overpowered the accused, and physically assaulted him. His wife, who tried to intervene, also faced the mob’s anger. The situation escalated quickly, and when police arrived to intervene, the crowd became hostile, reportedly throwing stones at the police vehicle and manhandling officers.

Despite the chaos, police managed to rescue Sanjay Kumar Singh and his wife from the mob and took them to the local police station. The case has been formally reported to the police, and the accused has been taken into custody. No legal complications have been reported beyond the initial incident.

The situation in the locality remains tense but under control, with police continuing their investigation into the matter.
