Cleanlines, safety at Chhath ghats top priority for civic body: Sushant Gaurav

Ranchi: With Dussehra festivities over, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation has shifted its focus to preparations for Chhath, one of the most significant festivals of faith in the region. Civic administrator Sushant Gaurav has inspected all major ghats and directed municipal teams to ensure comprehensive cleaning before the start of the four-day celebration.

Speaking to Reporter Post, Gaurav said that maintaining cleanliness at Chhath ghats is a key priority, but ensuring the safety of devotees and their families is equally important. He announced that barricading and adequate lighting will be arranged at all sites this year to prevent accidents.

In a new safety measure, the corporation has categorised all ghats under its jurisdiction into three risk levels — A, B, and C — with category A representing the most hazardous locations. Divers will be deployed at sensitive sites, and the administration will seek assistance from the district authorities to strengthen safety arrangements.

The civic body will also hold regular meetings with Chhath committees to incorporate their suggestions into the preparations. Special teams formed by the corporation will remain on duty to keep the ghats clean and secure throughout the festival.

This year, Chhath Puja will be observed from 25 to 28 October, culminating with the offering of arghya to the rising sun.
