Ranchi- Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday formally welcomed 160 new doctors and medical teachers into state service, handing them appointment letters at a programme organised at the Secretariat. The group includes assistant professors, dentists, and medical officers appointed across medical colleges and hospitals.
Calling the move a milestone in public healthcare, Soren said the recruitment drive would significantly strengthen Jharkhand’s medical infrastructure.
“Healthcare is not just a job, it is a responsibility to serve humanity,” he said, urging the new appointees to treat patients with compassion and ensure their services reach those most in need.
He emphasised that although the government faces resource limitations, empathy and humane behaviour from doctors can bring a major transformation in healthcare delivery.
Soren also recalled Jharkhand’s experience during the Covid-19 pandemic, crediting doctors and health staff for their tireless efforts in managing the crisis. He pointed out that many present-day health issues are linked to changing lifestyles, and stressed the need for collective action.
To motivate the workforce, he instructed the Health Department to introduce a system of regular performance evaluation and recognition of exemplary work through awards.
The ceremony was attended by Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari, Additional Chief Secretaries Avinash Kumar and Ajay Kumar Singh, NHM Campaign Director Shashi Prakash Jha, JMHIDP MD Abu Imran, and Special Secretary Dr Neha Arora.
