Ranchi- For the first time since its founding in 1954, Netarhat Residential School in Jharkhand will admit girls, Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on Tuesday. Known as the state’s most prestigious institution, the school has long been exclusive to boys and is celebrated for producing hundreds of top-ranking civil servants.
The Chief Minister also unveiled a plan to open three more Netarhat-style schools, ensuring more students benefit from the same quality of residential education.
During a ceremony at the state secretariat, Soren presented appointment letters to 975 educators and staff, including trained postgraduate teachers, assistant professors, and laboratory assistants. The programme also turned into a celebration of student achievement, where the toppers of the 2025 board examinations (JAC, CBSE, and ICSE) received awards: a scooter, laptop, smartphone, and a cheque worth ₹3 lakh each.
Emphasising his government’s priority on education, Soren said the goal is to make government schools as strong as private ones, while also rolling out schemes like the Guruji Credit Card (₹15 lakh collateral-free loan) and scholarships for students studying abroad.
The event featured the launch of the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar Yojana and the Jharkhand E-Shiksha Mahotsav, both aimed at promoting cleanliness and digital learning.
