Rain deficit drops to 20 percent in Jharkhand, more showers expected

Ranchi: The good spell of rain resulting from the recent depression originating from the Bay of Bengal has brought down the state’s rain deficit to 20 per cent. Met statistics suggested that against a normal of 913.4 mm of rain Jharkhand has so far received 726.7 mm, a deficit of 20 percent.

In Met parlance, a rain deficit of up to 19 per cent is considered as good as normal. Weathermen were hopeful that rainfall activity during the next few days will help further dragging down the deficit figure.

East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Ranchi and Bokaro have notched surplus rain. Jamtara, Khunti, Saraikela- Kharsawan and Ramgarh received normal rain while the rest of the other districts were still facing deficit rain.

The Ranchi Met Centre issued a forecast of light to moderate thundershowers accompanied by lightning in isolated places over the state going forward.
