7 youths drown in Soan river in Garhwa

Garhwa: Seven youths were drowned in the Soan river at Dumarsota under Kandi Police Station area of this district today.

Garhwa SP Shrikant S Khotre said that all the 7 bodies have been recovered which have been sent for postmortem.

The deceased have been identified as Ashwini Choubey (25), Ankit Mishra (22), Rajan Dubey (24), Sushil Mishra (24) and Neeraj Mishra (22) Alok Mishra (29) and Brajesh Singh (27).

Locals said that eight youths hailing from Dumarsota village had come to take bath in the river. Since the current in the river was strong and also ‘Daldal’ had formed at some places therefore the people had asked them not to go into deeper waters.

However, the youths did not listen to the people and went for a swim into deeper waters. Unfortunately one of them started drowning and to save him another one went ahead and he too was drowned. Subsequently, all of them drowned while trying to save one another.

Luckily one of the youths was saved by the villagers. Local divers with help of villagers and police took out all the 7 bodies which were later sent for postmortem.

Apart from the police, a large crowd of the people had also gathered on the spot.
