2-day Jharkhand rural & indigenous tribal sports competition begins

Ranchi: The two-day Jharkhand State Level Rural and Indigenous Tribal Sports Competition 2024, being held under the aegis of Department of Tourism, Art & Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs, was inaugurated at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Morhabadi on Friday.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by chief guest Sandeep Kumar, Director of Sports, Jharkhand Administrative Service, along with distinguished guests Ajay Nath Jha, Commissioner for Tribal Welfare, Jharkhand; Raj Kishore Khakha, Joint Director of the Samaj; and Manish Kumar, Deputy Director of Sports, who together lit the ceremonial lamp.

On this occasion, several district sports officers were honoured with mementos and traditional garments. These included Rupa Rani Tirki, District Sports Officer of West Singhbhum; Upvan Baada, District Sports Officer of Lohardaga; Markus Hemrom, District Sports Officer of Ramgarh; Umesh Lohra, District Sports Officer of Dhanbad; and Shivendra Kumar, District Sports Officer of Ranchi.

The two-day state-level competition features a diverse range of events such as sling shooting, traditional archery, sikhour, sack race, football, and hockey.

The successful organization of this competition is credited to the departmental trainers including Bharat Kumar Shah, Gopal Tirki, Sunil Mahli, Anmol Toppo, Kali Charan Mahto, Angad Hansraj, Raju Sahu, Harish Kumar, Prem Purti, Akhtar Hussain, Balram, Mohan Kumar, Jolen Kerketta, Sandeep Uraw, Raymond Minz, and Sudip Kujur, along with several other esteemed trainers who played a crucial role in its execution.
