Ranchi – A tragic accident claimed the life of an elderly man and left two others seriously injured when the roof of an abandoned government school building collapsed on Friday morning in Ranchi.
The incident took place around 8 a.m. in a dilapidated building once used as a government school, which had been shut for years after being declared structurally unsafe. Despite the warning, the site was often used as shelter by the homeless and migrant workers.
On Friday, a large section of the roof gave way without warning, burying the three individuals inside. Locals quickly responded and called the police. Officers from Sukhdevnagar Police Station, assisted by residents, pulled out the victims from the debris.
The elderly man died at the scene, while the other two were rushed to a nearby hospital and remain in critical condition. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Angry residents accused the authorities of negligence, claiming they had raised the alarm multiple times about the unsafe structure.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Thursday, six schoolchildren and a laborer were injured when the roof of Royal Valley School in Lariyadih village (Koderma) collapsed during heavy rainfall.
