Ranchi High Court Grants Bail to Kamlesh in Land Scam Case

Ranchi – On Wednesday, the Ranchi High Court granted bail to Kamlesh Kumar Singh, a former journalist accused of becoming a land mafia. Justice Sanjay Prasad approved the bail order, with Singh’s lawyer Aman Kumar Rahul confirming that his release was secured against a personal bond of ₹20,000.

Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 26 after a marathon questioning session linked to the Ranchi land scam. He had ignored earlier summons but was finally detained at 8 p.m. that evening. Weeks before, ED had conducted a raid at his residence on June 21, discovering ₹1 crore in cash and 100 rounds of ammunition at his Aster Green Apartment flat near Chandni Chowk, Kanke Road. Singh, however, managed to flee at the time.

ED later interrogated Singh for 14 days in phases while he was in custody, before presenting him before the PMLA Court, which sent him to Birsa Munda Central Jail. Authorities have indicated that further interrogation may still be needed given the scale of the fraud.

The case against Singh also includes charges under the Arms Act after weapons were recovered during raids. Investigations were later transferred to the State Investigation Agency (SIA). Singh is further accused of encroaching on tribal land and illegally conducting land deals along the riverbank in Kanke.
