Prithviraj Sukumaran Says Wearing the Army Uniform Lets Him Live His Dream

Mumbai, July 26 (IANS): Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is earning praise for his recent streaming film Sarzameen, has a deep respect for the Indian Armed Forces and a personal connection to the military uniform.

During a promotional interview with IANS, the actor shared that he once aspired to become an army officer—a dream shaped by his early education and upbringing.

“I grew up wanting to join the army. My friends back home know this. I studied in a Sainik school, and like most cadets, at some point during that journey, you dream of being in the armed forces,” he said.

However, fate had other plans. “My father passed away unexpectedly, and that event changed everything. My elder brother had just completed his SSB interview, and then everything suddenly went off track,” he recalled.

Reflecting on his career today, Prithviraj said, “Maybe, in some small way, every time I wear the army uniform for a film role, I’m living a part of that childhood dream. There’s still a part of me that deeply admires and reveres the armed forces.”

He added, “In school, we were raised on stories of bravery and sacrifice. We had motivational sessions where we learned about the greatest moments in the history of the army. I have friends serving in the army, navy, and air force. I’ve also lost friends in operations at the border. So it’s something very personal to me.”

When asked if these experiences have changed him as a person, he said, “I don’t know if it’s changed me, but the connection is definitely strong and emotional.”

Sarzameen is currently streaming on JioHotstar.
