NIRF 2025 Rankings: IIT Madras Tops Overall, IISc Best University, Hindu College Leads Among Colleges

New Delhi- The Union Education Ministry on Thursday released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 results, with IIT Madras once again emerging as the top performer. The institute secured first place in both the overall and engineering categories, continuing its dominance.

In management, IIM Ahmedabad retained its number one position, while Delhi University’s Hindu College ranked first among colleges. AIIMS New Delhi maintained its lead in the medical category, and IISc Bangalore topped the university rankings.

This marks the 10th straight year IIT Madras has been ranked first in engineering, and the 7th consecutive year it has topped the overall category. The institute also claimed first place in the newly introduced Innovation and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) rankings.

The top 10 overall institutions are: IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, NIT Tiruchirappalli, and IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti credited the achievement to a “collective and focused team effort,” emphasizing that the recognition reflects leadership in education, research, innovation, and sustainability. He added that the institute remains committed to contributing towards the vision of a Developed India by 2047.

In the university category, IISc Bangalore secured the top spot, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), University of Delhi (DU), and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

Faculty at IIT Madras said the consistent performance is a matter of national pride, as the institute continues to prepare India’s youth to be globally competitive through excellence in research, innovation, and quality education.
