Narendra Modi invites citizens to join ‘Gyan Bharatam App’ to showcase India’s cultural heritage

New Delhi — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to participate in the ‘Gyan Bharatam App’ initiative, encouraging them to share information about manuscripts and highlight diverse aspects of Indian culture.

The Gyan Bharatam App is a digital platform developed by the Ministry of Culture to identify, document, and preserve India’s rich manuscript heritage. It serves as the mobile interface for the Gyan Bharatam Mission, which aims to create a comprehensive digital map of manuscript repositories across the country.

Speaking during the 132nd episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister described the initiative as a reflection of public participation in preserving cultural heritage. He said the survey seeks to gather information about manuscripts from across India and invited people to contribute through the app.

Modi noted that thousands of manuscripts have already been shared. He cited contributions such as Tai-script manuscripts from Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh, Gurmukhi manuscripts related to Sikh tradition and Punjabi language from Amritsar, and palm-leaf manuscripts submitted by institutions.

He also mentioned ancient copper-plate manuscripts shared by the Abhay Jain Library in Rajasthan and valuable Tibetan manuscripts from the Hemis Monastery in Ladakh.

The Prime Minister said the survey will continue till mid-June and encouraged citizens to bring forward unique elements of their cultural heritage and share them through the platform.
