Mauritius PM Ramgoolam Offers Prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi

Lucknow – Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Friday offered prayers at the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

Pictures shared by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on social media showed Ramgoolam and his wife taking part in the rituals.

Sharing the images, Jaiswal posted: “PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam of Mauritius offered prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi. A visit reflecting the deep cultural and civilizational bonds that unite India and Mauritius.”

On Thursday evening, Ramgoolam also attended the Ganga Aarti at the ghats of Varanasi. Jaiswal wrote: “Experiencing the sacred connect with the Holy Ganga. PM Ramgoolam of Mauritius witnessed the Ganga Aarti at Varanasi today. This spiritual experience symbolises the timeless bonds of faith and tradition that bind India and Mauritius.”

The Mauritian Prime Minister is currently on an eight-day visit to India. On Thursday, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi. The two leaders reviewed bilateral ties and agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, energy, and maritime security.

Following their meeting, PM Modi posted: “Earlier today, welcomed Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam to Varanasi. His visit to Kashi is even more special given the city’s cultural significance and the strong linkages between India and Mauritius. We reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed regional as well as global issues, agreeing to deepen collaboration across key sectors.”

At the joint press conference, Ramgoolam praised India’s long-standing support, stating: “Over the years, India, through successive governments, has accompanied Mauritius on its journey of progress and development. We have greatly benefited from India’s generous assistance and expertise in key areas including health, education, renewable energy, infrastructure, maritime security, and capacity-building. This support continues to make a tangible difference in improving the quality of life for Mauritians.”
