Ranchi: A three-year-old boy from Rangamatia village, located in Kendua panchayat of Dumaria block, succumbed to malaria on Thursday night, bringing attention to the rising danger of the disease in the region. The child, Raju Hansda—son of Majhiya and Kuilu Hansda—was brought unconscious to the Dumaria Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Dr. Vinay Bhushan Tiwari of the CHC confirmed that the child had passed away before reaching the hospital. According to the boy’s father, Raju had been experiencing a high fever for the last three to four days. A blood test had confirmed malaria, and local health workers had initiated treatment. On Thursday, he was advised to be put on intravenous fluids. However, due to challenges in locating a vein, he was referred to the CHC. The family transported him by motorcycle, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.
Dumaria block has been identified as a malaria-prone area, with dozens of villages falling within the malaria-affected zone and hundreds of cases reported previously. This tragedy highlights the urgent need for stronger healthcare infrastructure and more effective malaria prevention efforts in the region.
