Deoghar — An armed gang carried out a high-profile robbery in broad daylight at HDFC Bank’s Madhupur branch on Rajbari Road, looting cash and jewellery estimated to be worth over ₹1 crore.
Police said six robbers executed the heist between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m. They stormed the branch wearing helmets and burqas, brandished pistols, and forced staff and customers to surrender cash, jewellery, and mobile phones. Witnesses reported that those who resisted were beaten.
The criminals looted counters, customer belongings, and lockers before shutting the main shutter and escaping undetected. Panic spread in the area once the robbery came to light.
Senior police officials, including SP Kumar Saurabh, arrived at the site and set up a special investigation team. CCTV footage is being scanned, and raids are underway at suspected hideouts.
Though the final figure is yet to be confirmed, initial estimates suggest losses exceeding ₹1 crore. The incident has sparked outrage over inadequate bank security measures.
