Jharkhand Maoist leader Nagina with ₹5 lakh bounty arrested in Lucknow by ATS

Ranchi/Lucknow, Sep 23 (IANS) – The Uttar Pradesh ATS has arrested Umesh Kherwar, better known as Nagina or Doctor, one of Jharkhand’s most wanted Maoists. He carried a reward of ₹5 lakh and was wanted in over 25 cases across Palamu, Garhwa, and Latehar districts.

Nagina, a TSPC sub-zonal commander and close aide of outfit chief Shashikant Ganjhu, was involved in recent deadly encounters in Palamu, including one at Manatu on September 3 that killed two policemen, and another on September 14 at Sildili forest where top Maoist Mukhdev Yadav was neutralised.

The ATS tracked him to the Lucknow area, where he was captured on Tuesday. Police said he was always armed with an AK-47 and actively planned attacks for the banned group.

Authorities believe his questioning will help expose TSPC’s network and prevent future operations.
