Ranchi – Security agencies have disclosed that Danish Ashhar, an ISIS suspect arrested in Ranchi on September 10, was preparing to carry out major terror attacks under the guidance of his Pakistani handlers.
Known in the terror network as the “Ghazwa Leader” and “CEO,” Ashhar had recruited youths from different states to build an India-focused ISIS module.
A joint operation by Delhi Police’s Special Cell and Jharkhand ATS, following six months of surveillance, led to his arrest along with five associates in multiple states. Explosive-making materials including acids, copper sheets, ball bearings, and lab equipment were recovered from his Ranchi lodge.
Ashhar, originally from Bokaro, had checked in under his Aadhaar identity. Locals described him as quiet and withdrawn, while his roommate was unaware of his extremist role.
Authorities believe ISIS had earlier attempted to set up bases in Ranchi, with fresh probes now underway to track the spread of the network.
