Growing global respect for Hindi is a matter of pride, says PM Modi

New Delhi- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted the nation on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, calling the increasing recognition of Hindi across the world a source of “pride and inspiration” for every Indian.

Hindi Diwas, observed annually on September 14, marks the day in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as one of India’s official languages during the framing of the Constitution.

Posting on X, PM Modi wrote: “Heartfelt greetings to all on Hindi Diwas. Hindi is not just a medium of communication, but also a vibrant heritage of our identity and values. On this occasion, let us collectively resolve to enrich Hindi along with all Indian languages and pass them on to future generations with pride. The growing respect for Hindi on the global stage is a matter of pride and inspiration for all of us.”

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda also extended wishes, describing Hindi as “not merely a language, but a unique symbol of Indian culture.” He emphasized its role in preserving traditions and values, adding: “During the freedom movement, Hindi played a vital role in uniting the country. Alongside other Indian languages, it will continue to contribute to nation-building.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in his message, said Hindi has been a “thread of unity” binding people across India. “Hindi is the identity of our national ethos and a powerful medium to express the collective consciousness of the people. I wish for the holistic growth of Hindi as the official language. In Bihar, Hindi is the official language for government work. Let us use, learn, and promote it with pride and respect,” he urged.
