Gangster involved in Ranchi police firing arrested with weapons and vehicle

Ranchi – A member of an interstate criminal gang has been arrested for his role in the September 21 midnight attack on a police patrol in Ranchi’s Khalari area, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred near Bombay Hotel in Purni Rai, where miscreants on a white Apache motorcycle opened fire on security personnel. Constable Ramsharekh Sharma was shot in the leg.

Following an FIR at Khalari police station, Ranchi police launched intensive raids. The operation led to the arrest of Rahul Das (29) from Chatra district, near Pahi forest on the Rai–Budhmu road. He was found carrying a loaded country-made pistol, 10 live cartridges, and was in possession of a Maruti Baleno and the motorcycle used in the firing.

Investigations revealed he had only recently been released from Sherghati jail in Bihar and was conspiring with associates to carry out a major crime. Police stated he is linked to criminal activities in Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Chatra, Giridih, and Bihar’s Gaya.
