Ranchi: There has been an encounter between police and Maoists on the Khunti-Chaibasa border.
In this encounter, area commander of CPI Maoist organization Budhram Munda was killed.
This encounter took place on Thursday afternoon in Sake’s Sarvada forest located in Kochang of Adki police station area of Khunti district.
According to Sources, on the instructions of the senior police officer of Ranchi Range, the district police and Cobra battalion were conducting operations against the Naxalites.
During this time the police have achieved great success.
Confirming the incident, DIG Anoop Birthare said that a Naxalite has been killed in the encounter and the search operation is going on.
On the secret information about the gathering of Maoists, a joint operation was conducted by the District Police, Cobra and Adki Police.
During this time, the police encountered Maoists in the Sarva forest.
After this the Maoists started firing on the police.
The police also opened fire in retaliation.
A Maoist was killed by police firing.
While the rest of the Maoists managed to escape by taking advantage of the dense forest.
Actually, elections are to be held on four Lok Sabha seats of Jharkhand on 25th May.
These include seats of Ranchi, Dhanbad, Giridih and Jamshedpur.
The area of Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency is adjacent to Khunti.
Ichagarh assembly seat of Seraikela district is also included in this Lok Sabha constituency. Regarding this, special vigilance is being taken in the Naxal affected border areas adjacent to Ranchi.
Police fear that Naxalites may try to influence the elections.
Therefore, combing operations are being conducted at various places.
Meanwhile, Khunti police had received information about the movement of Maoists in the forest near Kochang.
The police and security forces team conducted the operation on this lead.
