Mumbai — Adding a humorous spin to a serious reminder, the Delhi Police has drawn inspiration from veteran actor Rakesh Bedi’s popular character ‘Jameel Jamali’ to promote road safety awareness.
The police department shared a cartoon-style poster on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), featuring a caricature of the character holding a black motorcycle helmet. The creative blended humour with a strong safety message, using the iconic line “Bachcha hai tu mera” associated with the character.
The text on the poster read: “Bachcha hai tu mera, ye le helmet pehan,” while the caption added, “Helmet Pehnega Tabhi Syana banega Mera bachcha,” encouraging riders to wear helmets.
Jameel Jamali, portrayed by Bedi, is a cunning Pakistani politician from Karachi’s Lyari in the Dhurandhar duology directed by Aditya Dhar. The character navigates shifting political alliances and eventually emerges as an Indian intelligence asset.
The first film, Dhurandhar, released in 2025, features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. It revolves around a covert counter-terrorism operation involving an undercover Indian intelligence agent infiltrating Karachi’s criminal and political networks.
Its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, continues the storyline, following the agent’s mission as he confronts larger threats while seeking justice linked to the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The narrative draws loose inspiration from various regional geopolitical developments.
Bedi, who has worked in more than 150 films since the 1970s, is known for memorable roles in movies like Chashme Buddoor and Mera Damad. He has also been a familiar face on television with shows such as Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Shrimaan Shrimati, Yes Boss, and Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain.
