Ranchi – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced Babulal Soren as its candidate for the upcoming Ghatshila Assembly by-election, ending the suspense over its choice.
There had been speculation within the party that the name would be declared by Dhanteras, but BJP surprised everyone by making the announcement earlier than expected.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is also likely to announce the name of Somesh Soren, son of late minister Ramdas Soren, as its candidate later today. A meeting of the JMM Central Committee is currently underway at Ho Raha Bhavan in Ranchi, where the final decision is expected to be taken.
Sources indicate that Ramdas Soren’s son Sumit Soren has already purchased the nomination papers from the Ghatshila Sub-Divisional Office.
The Election Commission had announced the Ghatshila bypoll along with the Bihar Assembly elections, and voting is scheduled for November 11.
JMM held a meeting yesterday and granted its local committee two days to finalize the candidate’s name. The party is expected to officially declare its candidate by October 17.
It is noteworthy that News Jharkhand had already published a report earlier hinting that BJP would field Babulal Soren as its candidate.
