Lalu Prasad’s bail plea deferred for six weeks

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday deferred the hearing on the bail plea of jailed RJD supremo and former Chief Minister in a case of the Fodder Scam by six weeks.

Though the court did not fix the exact date of hearing it is being expected that the matter will be taken up hearing after January 22.

The court of justice Apresh Kumar Singh deferred the hearing on the case after the lawyer of Lalu Prasad Yadav sought time to file its reply over the arguments leveled by the CBI.

The lawyer of Mr Yadav said that he has still not got the certified copy of the punishment awarded to him by the lower court. He said that he had applied for the same with the lower court and expected that he will get the same in another 10-15 days after which he will reply over the allegations of the CBI.

In the previous hearing, the CBI had opposed the bail plea claiming that Lalu Yadav had not completed half tenure of imprisonment therefore he was not eligible for bail.

On Thursday the CBI had also filed a supplementary affidavit in the court in which Lalu Yadav has been accused of violating the jail manual and has claimed that since the health condition of Lalu Yadav is stable therefore he should be sent back to Birsa Munda Central Jail.

A special CBI court had awarded a total of 14 years of imprisonment to Mr Yadav in the Dumka Treasury case of the Fodder scam. Lalu Yadav has been lodged in jail since December 23, 2017 after he was held guilty in the Deoghar Treasury Case of the multi-crore fodder scam.

Lalu Yadav has so far got bails in two cases of Fodder Scam related to Chaibasa Treasury and one related to Deoghar Treasury had the HC granted him bail in the Dumka Treasury case it would have enabled the RJD supremo to walk out of the jail.
