Mumbai: Punjabi actress Lovepreet Gill, who has entered the ‘Bigg Boss 20’ house as a contestant, has asked viewers not to compare her journey with that of Shehnaaz Gill, saying she wants to be recognised for her own identity.
Shehnaaz, who became one of the most popular contestants on ‘Bigg Boss 13’, had won millions of fans with her bubbly personality and distinctive presence on the show. Lovepreet, however, said she hopes audiences will give her the same opportunity to make her own mark.
Asked by IANS about comparisons with Shehnaaz, Lovepreet said: “She is my senior artist, but I have my own identity. I have also given a few years to the industry. She is a senior artist. I request the public to understand that I have my own name. My family has given me my identity. Please give me love too. Don’t compare us.”
Lovepreet’s entry into ‘Bigg Boss 20’ comes with inevitable attention given Shehnaaz’s strong association with the franchise and her popularity after the 13th season. Shehnaaz had entered the show as ‘Punjab ki Katrina’ and quickly emerged as one of its biggest talking points.
Her journey on the reality show was also closely followed because of her bond with late actor Sidharth Shukla. Their chemistry became hugely popular among viewers, with fans creating the social media hashtag ‘SidNaaz’.
Shehnaaz finished as the second runner-up of ‘Bigg Boss 13’, while Sidharth emerged as the season’s winner.
Sidharth died on September 2, 2021, at the age of 40 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his Mumbai residence. His sudden death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and left his fans deeply saddened.
As Lovepreet begins her own ‘Bigg Boss’ journey, she is now looking to step out of comparisons and establish a distinct identity of her own in the reality-show spotlight.
