Ranchi: A protest by students in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment examinations took a dramatic turn on Friday after black ink was thrown at All India Students’ Association (AISA) President Neha Bora, triggering chaos at the demonstration and prompting swift police action.
The incident occurred during a large student march demanding reforms in the recruitment process and a fair investigation into alleged paper leaks in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. Thousands of students carrying the national flag and placards had gathered near Birsa Chowk to press for changes in the state’s examination system.
According to eyewitnesses, a youth standing among the protesters suddenly hurled black ink at Bora while shouting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans. The act caused a brief commotion as demonstrators protested the attack. Police personnel stationed at the venue immediately intervened and detained the accused.
During preliminary questioning, the detained youth reportedly told police that he viewed Bora as “anti-national” and accused her of supporting Umar Khalid, claiming this was the reason behind his actions.
AISA leaders alleged that individuals linked to the RSS and the BJP were responsible for orchestrating the attack. However, some local aspirants participating in the protest maintained that they did not want any political party or outside organisation to take over what they described as an independent student movement, fearing that the focus would shift away from examination reforms.
Reacting to the incident, Bora shared photographs of herself stained with ink on social media, saying she wore the ink “with pride.” She asserted that such acts of intimidation would neither weaken her determination nor derail the broader struggle for students’ rights, adding that she had faced similar challenges during previous protests.
Following the incident, security was intensified around the Jharkhand Assembly and nearby areas as a precaution. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case, while the protesting students continue to press for action on alleged recruitment examination irregularities and wider systemic reforms.
