Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Police have arrested two more accused in the murder case of Karni Sena youth leader Himanshu Singh, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 16. Investigators have also recovered a scooter allegedly used to help the prime accused escape after the murder. Police said the investigation is in its final stages and a chargesheet will be filed soon.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, City SP Lalit Kumar Meena identified the newly arrested accused as Raghavendra Kumar alias Ravindra Kumar alias “Ghere” (40) and Ganesh Machhua (34).
Based on information gathered during interrogation, police recovered a TVS Activa scooter that was allegedly used to transport and hide the main accused after the crime, facilitating their escape from the area.
Himanshu Singh was brutally attacked with sharp-edged weapons outside the Double Down (DD) Bar in Jamshedpur’s Bistupur area on the night of June 27. He suffered critical injuries and later died during treatment. Following the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the case.
The SIT conducted multiple raids using CCTV footage, technical evidence and intelligence inputs. During the investigation, police found that Ganesh Machhua had allegedly played a key role in sheltering and helping the main accused—Vishwanath Mandal alias “Bodra”, Rahul Dubey and Raghavendra alias “Ghere”—escape after the murder.
The prime accused, Vishwanath Mandal alias “Bodra”, who carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh, surrendered before a Jamshedpur court a few days ago.
Earlier, police had arrested several other accused, including Double Down Bar owner Neeraj Singh.
Investigators have also seized several sharp-edged weapons, including choppers, axes and knives, believed to have been used in the crime.
City SP Meena said Ganesh Machhua has a criminal background and had previously been jailed in two cases related to the illegal liquor trade.
Police said all 16 accused linked to the murder are now in custody. With the investigation nearing completion, the chargesheet is expected to be submitted before the court shortly.
