Jharkhand Launches Statewide Anti-Drug Drive; Marathon Rally Led by Youth Promotes Drug-Free Future

Ranchi: In line with Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s vision of building a drug-free Jharkhand, the state government on Thursday launched a statewide anti-drug awareness campaign with a marathon organised in Ranchi to encourage people, especially the youth, to stay away from substance abuse.

The marathon, organised by the Department of Tourism, Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs, was flagged off by the department’s Minister, Sudivya Kumar, from Bapu Vatika at Morabadi Ground. The participants ran up to Albert Ekka Chowk, spreading the message of a healthier, drug-free society.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Sudivya Kumar said every step taken by the young participants symbolised their commitment to protecting Jharkhand from the menace of substance abuse. He said making Jharkhand free from drug addiction is a key resolve of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and the enthusiastic participation of youth reflected their determination to support this mission.

Students from schools, colleges, universities, coaching institutes, athletes, government officials, employees, and citizens from Ranchi and other districts took part in the marathon, demonstrating collective support for the anti-drug campaign.

During the programme, the minister administered a pledge to participants, urging them to stay away from drugs and help spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. He later felicitated the winners of the marathon and cycling competitions at Albert Ekka Chowk.

  • Nisha Kumari – Second
  • Manju Kumari – Third

Sudivya Kumar also stressed that the youth have a vital role in making Jharkhand stronger and more prosperous. He said the overwhelming response to the marathon reflected the younger generation’s commitment to building a healthy, empowered and progressive state.

An exhibition put up by the Information and Public Relations Department showcasing awareness material on substance abuse remained one of the major attractions of the event.
