Rohitasya Roy Assumes Charge as Jharkhand’s New Advocate General

Ranchi: Senior Jharkhand High Court advocate Rohitasya Roy on Monday formally assumed charge as the new Advocate General of Jharkhand. The state government had appointed him to the post on Sunday following the resignation of former Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan.

With this appointment, Roy becomes the youngest Advocate General in Jharkhand’s history. At around 45 years of age, he has risen from being a practising High Court lawyer to occupying the state’s highest legal office.

Rajeev Ranjan Resigned on Sunday

A major development unfolded in Jharkhand on Sunday when Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan tendered his resignation, which was subsequently accepted by the Governor. Soon after his resignation, the state government moved swiftly to fill the constitutional post by appointing Rohitasya Roy, a respected senior advocate of the Jharkhand High Court.

The Law Department issued an official notification confirming the appointment, following which Roy took charge on Monday.

Appointment Made Under Constitutional Provisions

According to the notification issued by the Law Department, the appointment was made under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India. Exercising the powers vested under this provision, the Governor of Jharkhand approved the appointment of the new Advocate General.

The notification stated that the resignation of Rajeev Ranjan had been accepted with immediate effect and that Rohitasya Roy would serve as the Advocate General of Jharkhand from the date of assuming office until further orders.

Renowned Legal Practitioner

Rohitasya Roy is widely regarded as one of the prominent and experienced advocates of the Jharkhand High Court. He is known for his deep understanding of law and effective representation in several complex legal matters.

As Advocate General, Roy will serve as the principal legal advisor to the Jharkhand government. He will represent the state in court proceedings and provide legal opinions and guidance on important constitutional and administrative matters.

Following his appointment, members of the legal fraternity and officials from the Law Department extended their congratulations and best wishes to the new Advocate General.
