Complete Voter List Mapping by June 15, Directs Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K. Ravi Kumar has directed all District Election Officers across the state to ensure that voter list mapping is completed by June 15 under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

During an online review meeting held from the Election Office headquarters, the CEO reviewed the state’s preparedness for the SIR exercise and assessed the progress of voter list mapping. He stated that voters whose records have already been mapped will generally not be required to submit additional documents. However, unmapped voters will need to furnish the necessary documents after receiving a notice from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).

Kumar explained that cases involving incorrect voter mapping will be treated as anomaly cases and examined by the concerned ERO. Such voters will have to undergo the same claims, objections, and verification process as unmapped voters.

He instructed officials to establish contact with unmapped voters and verify their status. Officials were also asked to identify voters falling under categories such as absent, shifted, deceased, duplicate, and non-citizen. According to the CEO, the primary objective of the SIR exercise is to ensure that every eligible Indian citizen is included in the electoral roll while preventing ineligible non-citizens from benefiting from the process.

During the meeting, Kumar used a PowerPoint presentation to explain the voter mapping procedure, the functioning of the SIR exercise, and the list of required documents. He also directed that no changes be made to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) after June 15 and instructed officials to dispose of all pending cases related to Form-6, Form-7, and Form-8 by the same deadline.

The review also included interactions with BLOs showing low mapping progress. Officials discussed the challenges they faced and the reasons behind the slow pace of work. Necessary guidance and capacity-building measures were provided to help improve performance.

The meeting was attended online by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Subodh Kumar, Training Nodal Officer Dev Das Dutta, Deputy Election Officer Dheeraj Kumar Thakur, Election Officer Sunil Kumar, along with district and deputy election officers from across Jharkhand.
